FOCUS GROUP FEEDBACK
what are the strengths of our short film?
Afsarah: It felt really authentic and that she liked our storyline and could see the potential in it. She said that there were some clips that she really liked.
Areeba: I like script and the storyline.
Zayna: The storyline was good
What were the weaknesses of our short film?
Afsarah: It was hard to understand the plot because it was not edited so it was hard to differentiate what the actual plot was. She mentioned how some of the clips were unnecessarily long and that was the main reason confusing her about the storyline.
How would you edit this short film?
Afsarah: I would cut out the bits I don't want and make an actual sequence.
What type of music would you add to this type of film?
Afsarah: Maybe some soft instrumental music for some scenes such as the picnic scene where we are talking but not as much so adding the music would make the scenes less awkward.
What would you change about this?
Afsarah: There is too much focus on the food now. And to make it feel more dream like I would add something out of the ordinary to make the audience question why it is the way it is, then at the end the audience will get their answer and recognise that it was all just a part of Selima's hallucinations. Afsarah also suggested to make some scenes abnormal so that when the audience looks at it, they'll wonder what's happening to make the short film more interesting.
Would you watch this short film in your free time?
Everyone said they would if it was edited and made sense.
WHAT WE WILL IMPROVE ON
We will use their feedback to add to our short film. We will keep our short film feeling authentic and not change the script and storyline too much. We will edit it to make the concept of the film easier to understand and to make it feel more dreamlike like adding effects that would make the shots a little distorted or maybe having a blurry scene for one of the scenes so the audience would be confused on why the scenes got blurry but when Selima wakes up and the audience see that they will start to realise that's why there's all these effects.
Making sure that we cut out some picnic scenes not the dialogue but cutting out the scenes where it's just us eating for a couple of minutes, so that it isn't repetitive for the audience to keep watching.
We will take Afsarah's advice and make sure to add music that is an instrumental, so that it is calming to listen to in the background especially when there is dialogue it isn't disturbing the voices/volume of the characters.
